RUCK-A-CHUCKY

Contains five primitive campsites that are located on the north side of the river on the Placer County side. (Drivers Flat Rd off Foresthill Rd.) Toilets and trash cans are provided. No drinking water is available. The campground is at the end of a 2.5 mile gravel/dirt road. Vehicles with high clearance are strongly recommended. The road can be closed during inclement weather. Dogs are allowed on 6′ leash.. Fees: $8 per night. One extra vehicle allowed per campsite is $10 per night. This campground is closed in the winter.

RIVER TRAIL CAMPS

Permits are available for camping in some areas outside the designated campgrounds for those rafting the American River only from October 16 to June 31. River Permit camping is prohibited July 1 – October 15, due to high fire danger. MINERAL BAR

Located on the east side of the North Fork American River, (off Iowa Hill Road), where the Colfax Iowa Hill Road crosses the river. There are 16 designated campsites with tables, firepits, and dry toilets. No drinking water is available. A narrow paved road serves the campground. There is a 14 day camping limit. Dogs are allowed on 6′ leash. Fees: $28 year-round per night. One extra vehicle allowed per campsite is $10 per night. No reservations, first come, first served.

LAKE CLEMENTINE TRAIL

This easy trail is ideal for a panoramic hike along the North Fork (NF) American River, much of it in the shade of conifers and oaks and in close prox-imity to riparian flora and chaparral. Several side trails lead down to the river, the last one descen-ding to a deep pool beneath the North Fork Dam where spectacular views of water cascading over the dam can be seen.

BEAR RIVER CAMPGROUND

This area offers camping for family and groups. Reservations required only on line, no phone or written reservation requests are permitted. Camping is from April 1 through October 31, the elevation is 1800 feet. A maximum of 8 per for each camp site, Max 2 vehicles, max 2 dogs (on 6′ leash). Length of stay is 7 consecutive days, with a limit of 14 days per calendar year. RV’s are allowed, but there is no guarantee space for large RV’s are available. RV & trailers over 30′ are not recommended due to a narrow and steep road conditions to the area. Fee: $10 per night, an additional vehicle $2 per night. Dog fee $1 per night, max of 2 dogs to a campsite. See the web site for family and group rates and requirements. AUBURN STATE RECREATION AREA

Over 100 miles horse trails wind through the steep American River canyons and along the North and Middle Forks of the American River. The most famous trail is the Western States Trail which runs 100 miles from Lake Tahoe to Auburn. The address is for the Ranger’s Station on Hwy 49. There is a parking fee of $10 or use you annual Poppy Pass.
