GOLD PANNING

AUBURN STATE RECREATION AREA (ASRA)

The park allows gold panning using the hands and pans method along the American River.  There are regulations when collecting minerals, be sure to check the website or inquire at the ranger’s station located on Hwy 49 So.

BEAR RIVER CAMPGROUND/PARK

Gold panning is allowed with the following restrictions:  It is unlawful to operate motorized mining equipment and prohibitive to remove soil above the water line.

GOLD RUSH MUSEUM

This museum and the docents provide families the history for the gold rush era,  including a mining tunnel exhibit, indoor panning stream, interactive exhibits, operating stamp mill and site of gold rush program.  Hours:  Friday – Sunday: 10:30 a. – 4 p; and closed holidays.

PLACER COUNTY COURTHOUSE MUSEUM

This museum offers a display of gold and history.  Hours:  Daily 10 a – 4 p, closed holidays
